Guidelines for applying for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA)

COMMISSION REVIEW

CITY OF BAY ST. LOUIS MISSISSIPPI

 

 

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED WITH THE APPLICATION

FOR ALL PERMITS APPLIED FOR AFTER MARCH 1, 2008

 

 

ARCHITECTURAL PLANS or DRAWINGS: A total of 3 Sets must be submitted. (2 sets to the BSL Building Department and 1 additional set for the HPC to review)

  1. Site Plan, indicating setbacks, front, rear and sides.
  2. Exterior elevations (Street views) of proposed structure.
  3. Description of exterior trim materials to be used.  Can be shown on plans or separate page:
    1. Siding material, wood, Hardi-plank etc.
    2. Masonry materials, brick, stucco etc.
    3. Exterior openings, indicate sizes, types and materials

                                                              i.      Shutters: types and sizes

                                                            ii.      Awnings: types and sizes

    1. Column types and sizes
    2. Roofing materials; wood, metal, slate etc.
    3. Landscaping elements to include, but not limited to; fencing, sidewalks, driveways, entrances.

 

PHOTOGRAPHS: (Renovations only, not new construction)

  1. 35mm or digital only.  Polaroid’s will not be accepted.  Include photos of each side of the building; the site to be altered and close ups of the specific areas to be changed.

 

QUESTIONS:

Should you have any questions direct them to the building department who will contact the Preservation Commission.  Your questions must be in written form, signed, and dated.  Every effort will be made to answer the questions as soon as possible.  The Commission review will take a maximum of 2 weeks to complete.
