Folsom C. A. - In a horse race Jan. 10, 1846 at Pearlington, C. A. Folsom, Postmaster at Gainesville, pitted his Black Hawk against lumberman and sawmill operator  W. J. Poitevent's Sleepy Jim.  The little bay, Sleepy Jim won. (PC&C p 22)

Ford, General Thomas S. -Hon. E. H. Ratcliff, a Democrat elector for this district says Free Press, of our sister county, Pearl River and Hon.  E. J. Bowers, a Democrat elector for state at large, delivered eloquent and telling addresses to a large audience at the court house Monday morning.  In the evening directly after the adjournment of court, Gen. Thos. S. Ford was  followed by District Attorney J. H. Neville who proved as strong in argument and inimitable in language as ever.  Mr.

 

  Neville certainly preached the funeral sermon of third partyism in this section.  (SCE/10/22/1892)

 

On Monday next, at the court house, there will be Democratic speaking by leading and prominent Democrats, such as the Hons. James H. Neville, E. J. Bowers, Thomas Ford and others.  Be sure to attend.

Forsythe, Mrs. H. D. - A large birthday party was given at the residence of Mrs.H.D. Forsyth, (of Waveland) Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 o'clock, it being the birthday of the twins, Miss Edith and Master George Forsyth.  The presents received were numerous and fine.  Refreshments, cakes, candies, ice cream, etc., were served in abundance and the children all enjoyed a delightful evening.  Among those present were: Misses Mary Logan, Jennie Butler, Lucie Elliot, Miss Helwege and Fairchild, Masters Kenneth LeBlanc, Laurie O'Donald, M. Mr. Bradish Johnson, the rich Louisiana planter, died at Long Island on Thursday night. He was the father of Mrs. H. D. Forsythe, one of our well-known and esteemed summer residents. (SCE 11/5/1892)
