Henderson, W. G. - Through the influence of those interested in shipping at Ship Island and upon the recommendation of Hon. W. G. Henderson, collector of customs at Bay St. Louis, Thos. A. Cleary has been appointed deputy collector at this place and will in a few days open his office here. This will be a great convenience to vessels loading at Ship Island, as by this arrangement they can enter and clear their vessels here without going to the additional expense of making a trip to Pascagoula or Bay St. Louis - Biloxi Herald. Henderson, Judge W. G., the retiring Collector of Customs of this port, was honored with an elegant spread at the "Eagle" restaurant on Saturday evening. The affair was a happy and appropriate evidence of the esteem in which Judge Henderson is held. Around the rich and heavily laden board assembled a number of the Bay's most distinguished gentlemen who entertained their prominent guest with becoming brilliancy. Heslin, Rt. Rev. Bishop, last Sunday at the church of Our Lady of the Gulf, had fifty children make their first communion and administered confirmation to sixty-eight candidates for that sacrament. Under the direction of Miss A. Wagner the young ladies of St. Joseph's Academy sang during first Mass, and the College choir at second Mass. At both Massess and in the evening the Rev. Bishop delivered eloquent sermons.
In the evening the procession of the Blessed Sacrament took place and was attended by several hundred people. The day was a great one in the Catholic history of Bay St. Louis and will always be remembered. (SCE 6/10/1893)

Heslin, R. Rev. Bishop & Leduc, Father. An official letter from Rt. Rev. Bishop Heslin, addressed to the entire Diocese, was read last Sunday morning by Very Rev. Father Leduc. The letter is in behalf of the surviving victims of the late storm, soliciting contributions. The collections at the church of Our Lady of the Gulf tomorrow will be appropriated to the relief of the sufferers. It is urged that each and every one do their level best. (SCE 10/21/1893)
