Piernas, H. L. is the proprietor of the oyster bed, known as the "Gulf Coast Oyster Bed" and he has been here all his life, and eighteen years in the oyster business. He does a very extensive oyster business in the city, gets his oysters direct from Cat Island and makes three trips a week. Mr. Piernas' sail and oyster boat is one of the best on the Gulf, and when he is not busy in oyster fishing he uses it to convey merchandise to all points on the Gulf, but more especially for the benefit of the people of Bay St. Louis.
He also has an oyster house in the city next door to the postoffice, where oysters are sold by the count, and they may always be had fresh in the shell or in bulk. W.J. Morgan is the local retail dealer, and he does business in a manner that is creditable to him, and in a way that must suit his employer as well as his patrons. Mr. Morgan has been here for some time and is one of the active, energetic men of the city, and as an oyster vendor is doing well.
Mr. Piernas has considerable city property and evinces great faith in the future of our city. The supply of oysters is in fact inexhaustible, and his knowledge and experience in lifting them from their briny beds gives him a wonderful advantage over others whose occupation is to his not dissimilar.
He furnishes oysters of a superior quality, the very best that can be found in the market, and you will always find Mr. Morgan ready to give you a fair count, and the oysters are sold at the most reasonable prices. (SCE 05/20/1893) see: storms disk (SCE 10/7/1893)
