Hon. T.M. Favre says he feels as happy as a dog with two tails over the election. Mr. Wm. T. Stocker says "Adams" could not express the sentiment of his feeling. No doubt Mr. Stocker is correct. Responsible authority asserts that a 30 ton locomotive could not move the enthusiasm he displayed when the death knell of Republicanism was sounded. (SCE 11/19/1892)

James A. Cuevas, Grandson of Jean Cuevas of Cat Island, sat on the porch at Beauvoir in 1922, a blind Confederate Veteran, and reminisced with Zoe Posey about living in Bay St. Louis. He stated that his family moved to Shieldsboro in 1849. Then he listed every house along the beach from Waveland to Cowan's Plantation. He mentioned the Stockton Hotel site: "Then came the homes of Carson, Napoleon Fayard, Eugene Ladner, Carver, Spotorno, Arnold, Luke Mitchell, Lafitte, Auguste - later known as the Stockton House - the homes of Nicaise..." Bay St. Louis will be gayer this season, I predict, than at any time since the war. The completion offered by the Chattanoga road (N.O., Mobile & Texas Railroad) caused that long-heeded, far-seeing king of steamship men, Charles Moargan, Esq., to put on a sufficient number of his fine ships to accommodate the immense travel to and from this beautiful watering place, but everyone speaks in the highest terms of the "Morgan Line"
The hotel accommodations will be far better this season than ever before. That old favorite hotel, the "Stockton House" is already open and well patronized, with many rooms engaged for the entire season.
A new hotel is building, called the "Mardeau House", about two miles further up the bay, near Nicholson Avenue.
It will be a very fine house when completed. (N.O.

Mr. Gelpi, a young accordion player entertained the gentlemen and ladies at the Stockton Hotel on Wednesday night August 15, 1888 (Daily Picayune 8-21-1888)
The other morning it was noticed that in the rear of a chimney foundation on the Stockton lot the ground gave appearance as if something had been buried on the night previous. Upon investigation it was discovered that the ground had been dug to the depth of 5 feet and the outer shape of a pot was plainly seen. Indications plain point to the fact that a pot of money had been buried there and stolen. (SCE/10/22/1892)
