A delightful party was given on Saturday evening at the elegant home of Dr. L. H. Von Gohren.  Mr. Herman Von Gohren arrived from N. O. in the evening with a number of friends, and with a number of his invited Bay friends, no pleasanter evening could have been enjoyed. (SCE 03/18/1893)

Hancock County Circuit Court convened in Bay St. Louis, the county seat, for the spring term Monday morning, Judge J. H. Neville on the bench, with Hon. J. H. Neville prosecuting attorney.  The docket was remarkably light which speaks volumes to the credit of our people.  The local attorneys and those of the sea coast and neighboring counties were in attendance.  Court adjourned Wednesday morning.  Among the cases disposed of was that of Wm. Thorn, burglary, one year in State penitentiary;  the case of Victor Landrieu was dismissed;  the appeal of Dr. L. H. Von Gohren, charged with trespassing by Miss Neige Cannard, the jury reversed the decision of the lower court by bringing in a verdict of acquittal.  Other cases of minor importance were disposed of.  Mr. Reuben Brown was foreman of the Grand Jury.  (SCE 04/29/1893)

Jenks, Mr. and Mrs. and bright baby son, John Matthews, after a visit of several weeks to Dr. and Mrs. L. H. Von Gohren, returned to their home in Mobile this week. (SCE 11-4-1893)

 

Von Gohren, Dr. L. H., announces himself as a cadidate for alderman from the First Ward in this issue of the paper. The Doctor would make a good alderman. (SCE 11/25/1893) von Gohren, Dr. L. H., was elected on Wednesday as alderman of the First Ward.  The Doctor is popular and a man of broad and liberal views and will make an excellent officer. (SCE 12-2-1893)

 

Buisson, Mrs., whose suit versus Dr. Von Gohren, came up for trial this week before the local court, reached a compromise.  It was agreed last summer that Mrs. Buisson would run the boarding house for the Doctor, and now the lady claims that the agreement was not properly carried out by the Doctor.  (SCE 12-2-1893) von Gohren, Dr. and Mrs., threw open their hospitable home on New Year's eve night to a number of their friends and the evening was highly enjoyable. Von Gohren, Herman.  Visiting from N. O. for act of sale of his villa to R. R. Perkins last Tuesday. (SCE 21 Mar 1908). Von Gohren, Dr. L. H., owned home known as "Point Comfort" (Point Comfort was Villa Quisisana) which later belonged to Mr. R. R. Perkins. (SCE 1908 #48).

 

L.H.V G. was alderman, 1st ward under Mayor E. E. O'Brien (SCEJUB42p27).  (His name appears on marble marker in City hall)

Von Gohren, Paula (Mrs. Paula Jenks) local vocalist in 1890's (SCE Jubilee 1942 pg 5).

 

  Paula Von Gohren married W. W. Jenks in 1891 at Grace Episcopal Church on Nicholson Ave, when the church was not yet completed.  (SCE Jubilee 1942 pg 22).

 

Von Hufflen, M. - Grand Concert will be given at Bay St. Louis on Sunday next, August 28, 1870, in which Mlle. Zeiss and M. Von Hufflen acknowledged favorites of the music-loving people of the Crescent City will assist.

 

  This will make the Bay a lively and attractive place during the commencement of the week, as the great Southern Regatta is to be run there on Monday, Aug. 29.

 

  The Concert is given for the benefit of the Catholic Church at the Bay, on which repairs have recently been made, necessitating the raising of some funds.

 

  Our people are always ready to assist in works of charity, and as this occasion gives the opportunity to combine pleasure with the good act, we hope there will be a full house. (N.O. Times Fri Aug 26, 1870 P r c 6 - VF MJS VII 00385).
