RIDING CHAMPS

 

   Younger sisters Chickie, and Betty pose circa 1951 with a host of their trophies and ribbons won during local, state, regional and national competition.  Both Betty Younger Haas and Chickie Younger Knox were national riding champs during their careers.  The Lazy Y Stables became a public riding club in 1948.  Prior to that the Younger family was in the cattle and horse business at the same location beginning in 1897.  On June 22 and 23 an auction of furniture, saddles, bridles and other horse-related items will be held at Lazy Y, located at 10269 Old Nicholson Avenue, one-half mile off Highway 603. Younger, Claud S. - Our young friend, Claud S. Younger, has gone to New Orleans and accepted a position in the American drug store.  Claud is an industrious and worthy young man and deserving of success.  (SCE 10/29/1892)

Zeiss, Mlle. - A Grand Concert will be given at Bay St. Louis on Sunday next, August 28, 1870, in which Mlle. Zeiss and M. Von Hufflen acknowledged favorites of the music-loving people of the Crescent City will assist.

  This will make the Bay a lively and attractive place during the commencement of the week, as the great Southern Regatta is to be run there on Monday, Aug. 29.

  The Concert is given for the benefit of the Catholic Church at the Bay, on which repairs have recently been made, necessitating the raising of some funds.

  Our people are always ready to assist in works of charity, and as this occasion gives the opportunity to combine pleasure with the good act, we hope there will be  a full house. (N.O. Times Fri Aug 26, 1870 P r c 6 - VF MJS VII 00385).

 

Zengarling, Johnny r Country (Ph 55)

 

Zengarling, Robert, 508 Nicholson Avenue, Waveland, Ms. 39576.  On March 7, 1991, Joanne Mumme and Charles Gray from the Historical Society accompanied Mr Zengarling to Bayou LaCrox cemetery. Mr. Zengarling said he was born Feb 17, 1909 and that he was born near the cemetery as was his father and that his grandparents both immigrated separately from Germany, then married here.  Follow Hwy 90 5.5 miles west from the 603 intersection, turn right on a gravel road for a mile and a half to the cemetery on the right side of the road.  (See Bayou LaCroix cemetery) Access to his old homesite is directly across the road from the cemetery through a locked gate, proceed west on a private road to the first right, which will cross under a power line right of way and end at the old homesite on the bank of the bayou.  There are still numerous fruit trees (which are presently in bloom).  Mr. Zengarling said his grandparents (large tombstone) were John, 9/15/1815 -3/28/1896 and Barbara 12/31/1836 - 11/8/1911.  His parents graves and a double tombstone at the head of his grandparents.

Zingerling, Agnes Bourgeois -  article in (Souvenir Centennial Edition, Hancock County Eagle, Aug. 1958). Wife of Joseph Zingarling, is a native of HC.  Dau of Louis Sevrin Bourgeois of Waveland and the late Mary Agnes Coffee Bourgeois of New Orleans.  She was manager of the HC Selective Service Bureau.  Had no children.
