De Montluzin Drug Store. (Photo pg 53 BSL 100 Years). The Bay's Pioneer Drug Store-- L. A. deMontluzin sons is the oldest established and one of the most reliable drug stores of Bay St. Louis. The business was founded over thirty years ago by the late L. A. deMontluzin. This firm has established an enviable reputation for the stock of pure fresh drugs, druggist sundries, toilet articles, stationary that they have on hand at all times. Special attention is devoted to the prescription department. In addition, they have developed an enormous soda water and ice cream trade, which is due to the special pains and effort that they devote to this feature of their business. Their drug store is centrally located, convenient to the post office, the banks and is directly opposite the new Pickwick Hotel on the Beach. (HCSB) PHOTO deMoutluzin, Mr. L. de Montluzin, L. A. - It would certainly be an incomplete sketch of Bay St. Louis and her business firms should we pass by without mentioning the very popular and well-established drug business of L. A. deMontluzin, for he is doing a leading business. Mr. de Montluzin cast his lot with this city and her interest nineteen years ago beginning here as a druggist and a chemist has now a good trade. His store is replete with everything usually found in a first-class drug establishment and among the equipment is an elegant prescription case and he makes prescriptions his specialty, so when a prescription is laid on his prescription case you may feel sure that the drugs used in the compound will all be fresh and exact quantity called for will be given. He owns city property and among others we must admire his city home. (present day #208 N. Beach Boulevard, CHG) he is one of the best educated men in the South, or North either for that matter, and is a Frenchman by birth but besides his native tongue he speaks English, Greek, Spanish and part of the Choctaw, and is learned in the mother of all languages - Latin. Mr. de Montluzin taught French school in New Orleans twenty-five years, and is a very fine educator as his retention in the school for so long a period would conclusively prove. He has gained considerable popularity as a writer and his articles have attracted much deserved attention in the papers of New Orleans and France.
When the Union was threatened, he was made captain of his company and they were all French to a man and the company was called "Saint James Frenchmen", and they did their part as nobly as any company that marched to war, loyal to their homes and State. Returning again to their homes and friends when peace was again declared, Mr. de Montluzin continued to hold a position of command, as he is a leading citizen and always willing to aid any enterprise that demands the consideration of our people. His views of the future of this city are exceedingly optimistic. (SCE 05/20/1893)
