Ladner, Frank J. was born and raised in the city, and since the eventful time formerly mentioned has been engaged in different lines of business. He was baggagemaster for a time between New Orleans and Montgomery, afterward was express messenger, and later served as conductor on the Northeastern and East Louisiana railroad. He ran the first passenger train into Covington, Louisiana, but retired from railroad service four years ago and engaged in the mercantile world, opening up a good stock of general merchandise, and his business requires the help of four clerks. He runs a free delivery to all parts of the city and he asks only that he be permitted to show goods and asks you to investigate his prices.

He solicits all kinds of country produce, and for wool will pay top prices, and respectfully solicits all wool growers to call and get his terms. He owns some very desirable town properties, and some twelve hundred acres of fine timber land. He has fifty bearing pecan trees, also luscious pears, a thrifty vineyard of the scuppernong grapes and other fruits in proportion. His land is at least 150 feet and above the sea level, and it is one of the finest farms in South Mississippi. He has good springs of cool, healthful water, and has shown that stock - sheep, hogs, cattle and horses - can be profitably raised here if properly cared for.  (SCE 05/20/1893)
