St. Mary's Cemetery was dedicated by Fr. LeDuc on 22 Dec 1872.

 

St. Rose School- The Garden Party, the prize competitions and a festival by the St. Rose's school, all for the benefit of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic church, brought a clear profit of $205 more than the  debt of the church, amounting to $665.80.  (SCE 8/27/1892)

St. Stanislaus Col.

 

1852 - St. Stanislaus opened Sep 1, 1852. It was a frame building of two rooms located directly behind the church. This building burned on Nov 16, 1907.

 

1853 - Yellow fever from July 1 to Nov 1, 1853. It was closed by yellow fever but reopened in June 1854 and continued to operate until Jan 1, 1856 when the new building opened.

 

  1855 - St.  Stanislaus Col.  Est. 1855.  (ATG pBSL-2, drawing pBSL-2) This is in error CHG

 

  1856 - When the new building opened  on Jan 1, 1856, the property was 140 feet on the Gulf by 40 arpents.  A frame building was built 80 ft.  long and 2 1/2 stories high.

 

  1859 - An additional structure was built 100 ft. west of the main structure measuring 50 ft by 30 ft containing two dining rooms, a community room, a director's room, a chapel and a dormitory.  This building was still standing in 1942 (time of the article SCE Jub Edit.).

 

  1862 - At the end of the 1862-62(3?) session, the school was closed until July 1, 1865 after the War.

 

  1892 - We were told the other evening that the brothers of St.  Stanislaus college are contemplating of purchasing the Bay St. Louis Hotel and erect an elegant new college building.  If this is true it will mean a decided improvement for our city.  (SCE 9/17/1892)

 

   St. Stanislaus" College Columbian exercises will take place the 21st, instant.  (SCE 10/15/1892)

 

  Fully five hundred people attended the Columbian celebration at St. Stanislaus college last night.  The performance by the boys was superb and loudly applauded. The tableaux was exceedingly grand.  To be brief as to say the least of the affair we can say that it reflected credit on the collegians and college.SCE 10/22/1892)

 

  St. Stanislaus' college is on the constant improve and ranks prominently as an institution any city may justly feel proud of.  The latest material improvement about the college is the building of an astronomical observatory, involving a cost of nearly ten thousand dollars. St. Stanislaus College - The Brothers of St. Stanislaus College were among the first to begin work repairing the damage done by the storm.  They have completely repaired their beach and built a splendid breakwater.  Mr. Planchet is also repairing his property.  He has built a fine breakwater and will probably rebuild the building destroyed.  All signs of the recent storm will soon be wiped out from the Bay  (10/28/1893)

 

  1903 - On the night of 21 June 1903, fire destroyed the main building located on the beach front.  The kitchen and dining rooms escaped.  (SCEJUB42p12)

 

  June 23, 1903.  Burned except kitchen and dining room. (BSL 100 years).

 

   St. Stanislaus Col.  Has competent physician and experienced infirmarian. (SCE 5 Sep 1903 pg. 2).

 

   St. Stanislaus Col. Gentlemanly conduct required. (SCE 9/5/03).

 

   St. Stanislaus Col.  Books of immoral character found on campus will be immediately destroyed. (SCE 5 Sep 1903).

 

  Sep 5,1903 - drawing of new buildings by Deboll and Owen, architects.  Main building frontage to be 150 ft and the wing buildings will be 30 ft wide. (SCE 9/5/1903).

 

  1904, June 21.  New college blessed. (BSL 100 Years pg 21).

 

  1908, Feb 20, Plans given and contract signed with Charles Sanger for auditorium.  Brick ground floor, lumber 2nd floor.  to be used until church is finished.  Located on Bookter Street side between main building and music hall.

 

   Mar 28, 1908.  Plans of Feb  20 revised.  One story only now. (Sea Coast Echo, 28 Mar 1908).

Also see: Sorbonne, Rip University & BSL Schools) Ferrell, Prof. Chiles Clifton, The Bay St. Louis High School anticipates a visit on Thursday, April 2nd, from Prof. Chiles Clifton Terrell, of the chair of Germanic languages, University of Mississippi, who has been delegated by the Committee on Affiliated Schools to visit the counties of Jackson, Harrison and Hancock.  On Wednesday, the 1st, he will pay an official visit to St. Stanislaus College, of this city.  Prof. Terrel writes Supt. Bailey he would be glad of, and solicits, an opportunity of addressing the people of Bay St. Louis and vicinity in the interest of the University of Mississippi.  Accordingly, the endeavor will be made to have Prof. Terrel meet our people and an address on the university, its advantages, etc. delivered.    PRINCIPAL OF ST. STANISLAUS HIGH SCHOOL- Bro. Paul

 

                       Montero Named SSC Principal.

 

  Brother Mark Thornton, Provincial superior of New Orleans Province of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, has announced that Brother Paul Montero has been named principal of St. Stanislaus High School, Brother Paul, whose appointment is effective July 1, succeeds Brother Lee Barker, who has served as principal of St. Stanislaus since 1966.  Brother Paul, the son of Mrs. Anite Montero and the late Odell Montero of Donaldsonville, La. entered the Brothers of Sacred Heart in 1956 following graduation from Ascension Catholic High School in Donaldsonville. He made his perpetual profession of vows in 1964.  He received a bachelor's degree in Spanish and Social Studies from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.  In 1961 and earned a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Alabama in 1968.  He has done additional graduate work at Loyola University in New Orleans, Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La. and Dominican College of New Orleans.  He taught at St. Aloysius High School, New Orleans, was principal of Edward Douglas White Catholic High School Thibodaux, La. Until January, 1976, when he left to participate in the spiritual re-foundation program at Sangre de Cristo Center in Sante Fe, New Mexico.  (Coast Buyers Guide ­June 23, 1976)
