Scott, Arlington Wyatt Mr., Real estate.  Residence on Main St.  a short distance from Court House.  (ATG BSL-11 photo)

Scott, Bob Messrs. F. Graves and Bob Scott, reporting on the October 1, 1893, hurricane, say they have reliable information that there are 35 schooners abandoned in the marshes, driven off the oyster reefs.

Each of these vessels carried a crew of from three to six men, and of these but five have been saved.

One of these was blinded by the spray and sand, having drifted on a piece of wreck for fifteen miles and landed on Cat Island.

When found by a passing boat he was in danger of being eaten up by the coons, which were driven to desperation by hunger, and attacked him furiously.  He is an Italian.  He was dreadfully bitten, but it is thought he will recover.

He was carried to Biloxi.

One luggar was found in the marshes with four dead men lashed to the rigging.  They could not be identified. (Picayune, Friday Oct. 6, 1893 p 6 col 7 - VF MJS VII 00479)

SEA COAST ECHO

Established by C. G. Moreau on 9 Jan 1892.  He had two partners, W. L. May and A. G. Osoicach.

Founded in 1882 (1892? CHG *) by Charles G. Moreau, shortly afterward took partner A. G. Osoinach. (ATG pBSL-7, photos of Moreau and Osoinach). (* Note different decade - Note also, the Golden Jubilee edition was in 1942 indicating that the date of 1892 is most likely)

Sea Coast Echo first edition 9 Jan 1892, 1000 copies, was printed in Pass Christian because the presses did not arrive in time. Plant was first housed in a frame building belonging to Ben Lane Posey which stood 1000 feet offshore.  New building contracted in 1902 and completed in 1903.  Designed by John Henry (Godchaux building N.O.) and built by G. G. Gardebled. (SCE Jubilee 1942 pg 19)

SEA COAST ECHO, editor, really wishes Christmas would come more than once a year if favored the same as the just past 25th.  We were well remembered in almost every way possible, and to say the least there are not sufficient letters in the alphabet to express our appreciation by words.  The following-named have the editor's thanks: R.B. McWilliams & Co., Galveston, Texas;  Miss Marie Richards, New Orleans;  Miss A. Wagner, Bay St. Louis; Very Rev. Father H. Leduc, Rev. Father Alphonse, Bay St. Louis;  Mr. J. Barere, 271 Laurel St., New Orleans;  Miss F. Gardebled, Bay St. Louis;  Mr. Morris Stein, Plaquemine parish, La.;  G. A. Levy, Bay St. Louis; and a party signing "Santa Claus" , and our relatives.  (SCE 12/31/1892)

Orders for our boom edition continue to roll in.  We have just received an order for 100 from Messrs. G.W. Dunbar's Sons, making, up to date, the round number of 2500 copies in addition to our regular circulation.  A real estate agent, on the coast, is thinking of ordering 1000 copies to send abroad.  (SCE 04/22/1893)
