Domingue, Mrs. - "Holiday On The Plantation" was splendidly rendered and was alone worth the price of admittance. Aunt Dinal was a prominent character and elicited great applause. Mr. Patterson gave a pretty exhibition of clogging and dancing. Mr. Maynard's musical exhibition was a display of good musical talent and skill.The coffee and cake table was ably presided over with becoming grace by Miss Melanie Gragnon. The proceeds of the entertainment will be appropriated to build a home and for the benefit of Mrs. Domingue, an aged and poor woman, of Bay St. Louis, who is really deserving of the charity. Dorn, Mrs. L. and son. - It was the editor's good fortune to spend last Monday at the farm home of Mrs. L. Dorn and son at Grand Plain, near Claiborne station. This is one of the finest and largest truck farms in the country, comprising 1000 acres. On the farm are 800 pecan trees not far from bearing and in a few years this pecan land will be a snug fortune for its owner. Most of the work attended to on the farm is the hay making industry from which a good revenue is received. Mrs. Dorn has just had completed a spacious hay barn 25x60, which is now nearly full and more to cut. A hay presser and baler will soon be erected on the farm and hay will be shipped to all points. There are about 50 head of fine stock on the place. To Mrs. Dorn and to her son and nephews many thanks are return for such a hospitable reception and pleasant day. (SCE 9/30/1893)
Dorn, Mrs. L., and her estimable son, Mr. Christian Dorn, gave a New Year dance at their hospitable home at Grand Plain, Claiborne station, for their many friends in this part of the county. A fine and full string band was in attendance and furnished excellent music for the occasion. An abundant spread of substantials and delicacies was served, and in all the affair was throughly enjoyed by the large number of guests present, and this New Year on the farm will long be remembered. Dorsey, Mrs. Sarah A., the well known novelist and linguist, was a sister of Collector Dahlgren. She is also well known as the benefactor and friend of ex-President Jefferson Davis, to whom she bequeathed the well-known property at Beauvoir, Miss. and two cotton plantations in Louisiana on account of his services to the Confederacy. Dotson, Debbie - LAGARDE WINS AT DIAMONDHEAD-Lis Lagarde, 15 daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lagarde placed first in the Diamondhead Junior Tournament. Earlier in the month Miss Lagarde assured herself a place in the Southern Closed Junior Tournament to be played in Mobile with a semi-final finish in the Mississippi Junior Qualifying Tournament in Jackson. The top four finishers from the Mississippi tournament qualified for the Southern Closed. Miss Lagarde was the only player from the coast to reach the top four.
Miss Lagarde teamed with Meg Elliott of Brookhaven to win the 16-year-old'd double title. The pair defeated the number one seeded doubles team for the title.
In single's play during the Juniors, Miss Lagarde defeated three opponents, before being defeated by Debbie Dotson in the semi-finals.
Lis will participate in several more competitions this summer before returning to studies at Our Lady's Academy.
Lis has been coached by Brother Pascal of St. Stanislaus and Brother Paul, tennis coach of SSC and OLA. She is pressently being coached by Janet Talley, Diamondhead Racquet Club. (Coast Buyers Guide - June 23, 1976)
