LaFrance, Jules George  -  July 18, 2008

Hancock County has lost a well-known and respected citizen. Jules George LaFrance passed away on Friday, July 18, 2008 in Bay St. Louis, MS. Jules, or "Poss" as his family and friends knew him, was a lifelong resident of the Ansley area. He was descended from both Native Americans and early settlers there. Poss and his wife, Mabel Dorn LaFrance, were the original owners and operators of LaFrance Fishing Camp in Ansley, MS for many years. In addition to the camp, Mr. LaFrance also worked for the county. Fishing and hunting were among his greatest passions. Throughout his life, he endured hardships that would have shaken the faith of most men. Having survived a near fatal illness as a toddler, he felt the rest of his life was a true gift from God.

Jules George LaFrance was born on May 25, 1913 to Jules LaFrance and Fannie Ladner LaFrance. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mabel Dorn LaFrance, three brothers, Edgar LaFrance, Lester LaFrance and infant Charles LaFrance, and two sisters Leona Fayard and Adelaide Herron. Surviving him are two sisters, Alvina Tartavoulle and Lillian Lott, and a brother-in-law, A.J. Fayard, all of Bay St. Louis.

Other survivors are his stepdaughter, Ceyrelia Marie Hall and husband Toxie; five step-grandchildren, Gwen Pendergraff and husband Wayne of San Antonio, Texas; Wayne Heitzmann and wife Carole, Bay St. Louis; Diane Bass and husband J.B, Prentiss, MS; Donna Coleman and husband Phil, of Lagrange, Louisiana; Colleen Brady and husband Scott of Kenner, Louisiana; also numerous step-great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis. The Prayer Service will be at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Bayou Caddy Cemetery in Ansley, MS. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Historical Society Post Office Box 3356, Bay Saint Louis, MS 39521.
