The Hancock County Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic records, buildings and customs. We were incredibly blessed during Katrina when, in spite of losing the roof of the Lobrano House and a complete 35-foot long section of wall along the north side of the house, we did not loose a single record. All computers, photographs and documents survived.
It has been expensive recovering from the damage to the house and furnishings. The electrical system, air conditioning and carpeting had to be replaced and many of the nearly 30,000 photographs in our collection had to be re-printed. We worked for two years with the sheet rock hanging loose from the ceiling and on the second anniversary of Katrina we began our restoration.
While membership dues support our normal operation expenses, we need donations to fund the extensive work we have undertaken. Donations to the Society are 100% tax deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
