Mauffray, Dora Thompson  -  February 10, 1960

Mrs. Joseph O. Mauffray, longtime resident of Bay St. Louis, died at 1:30 P. M. Wednesday at her home on Main Street. She was 86.

Services are at 9:45 A. M. Friday at Fahey-Whitfield Funeral Home followed by a 10 A. M. mass at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. A semi-invalid for the past year, Mrs. Mauffray became seriously ill about 10 days ago.

The former Miss Dora Thompson, daughter of the late Mason A. and Euphrasine Necaise Thompson, she was born July 3, 1873, in Pascagoula and spent her childhood at Bayou LaCroix, later moving to Biloxi.

She was married to the late Mr. Mauffray Feb. 8, 1899, and came to Bay st. Louis as a bride.

Mr. and Mrs. Mauffray celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949 and renewed their vows at a nuptial mass at Our Lady of the Gulf Church.

Before his death in 1953, Mr. Mauffray operated a hardware and mercantile store for many years. He served as president of the Merchants Bank and Trust Co., city alderman, and president of Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association. At one time he was state deputy of the Knights of Columbus.

Mrs. Mauffray was an active member of the Altar Society of Our Lady of the Gulf, St. Margaret's Daughters Altar Society and Women Catholic Order of Foresters. Flowers were her hobby, and throughout her years she kept an attractive lawn.

She is survived by five daughters, Miss Elsa E. Mauffray, Mrs. Octave Delph, and Miss Iolanthe Mauffray of Bay St. Louis, Mrs. Currie C. Garner of Laurel, and Mrs. Joan M. Dematapis of Glendale, Calif.; two sons, Alden L. Mauffray of Bay St. Louis and Ludger J. Mauffray of New Orleans; a brother, C. A. Thompson of Biloxi; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
