Sec. S. Be it further enacted, That the said board _	of selectmen shall have power to levy taxes upon

tion. not exceeding one-half ol' the State tax on said property; they shall have power to impose and tax reasonable fines and amercements upon all persons who shall offend against, or violate any of the laws, ordinances or regulations passed by-said board, not exceeding, in any one case, fifty dollars and costs, by-suit or suits, before any justice of the peace, which said fines or amercements, shall be levied of tin; goods or chattels of said offenders, by writs directed to a constable or other legal officer required to execute the same, all of which taxes, fines, amercements, or any moneys raised under such ordinances, &c., shall be p'aid into the treasury of said corporation, for the use of the same.

Louis, in front of said town, by compelling the owners or agent's of owers of lots situated along said bank, to make the necessary repairs, to keep the same up in front of their respective property, so ay to prevent the same from being washed away, destroyed or prostrated by any means whatsoever; and if any such owners or agents of owners, shall neglect or refuse, and when there shall be no suc-h owners or agents present to make such repairs, and the said bank shall have remained ten days without the necessary repairs, the said selectmen shall have power to lease such lots and the houses thereon, by advertising the same, for at least fifteen days, by posting notices at three of the most public places within the corporation, under a special order of the board to any person or persons, offering to take said lot for the shortest time for- repairing and keeping in repair said bank, during said lease, and paying the cost accrued thereon. The said board of selectmen shall have the power to prevent the erection of any shanty, houses or other buildings upon the edge of the bank in front of said town or before the houses now standing, or hereafter to be erected aback of the road, running along said bank, to prevent the erec-

tion of buildings of any kind, without a special license from said board, under the bank, and between
