Mggpraa updates petition status for Rotary Club
r*y fellow Rotarians:	Dick	Shadoln	asked	me yesterday to give you a
brief report on the activities of our Citizens* Group, of which I am chairman, and what we are doing toward a petition recently circulated seeking to bring to a vote an issue. The issue, as you already know is:	Will it be better for Bay St. Louis to keep its present form of
government, or should the Mayor-Counoilinen form of government be used.
Wie question is not a new one. For a number of years and for varying reasons the citizens of -iay St. Louis have expressed signs of discontent and have, indeed, made concerted attempta to solve the problem. Earlier petitions were circulated, but the attempts were frustrated either through lack of sufficient planning or through lack of sufficient knowledge of legal technicalities to bring them to fruitatlon.
How our group caroe involved has nothing whatever to do with any of these earlier attempts — nor does it have anything to do with the fact that our mayor, the Honorable Warren Carver, is a spoken advocate of a change to the raayor-aldermanic form.
•Our involvement grew out of ray appointment to the MIDAS team.
As one of 28 persons on this team, it so happened my assignment was to find out ways and means of bringing a total progress to the city of my St. Louis. This assignment, I am sure most of you know, is rather recent and followed Governor Finch's visit to ijay St. Louis at which time concerned citizens met with the Governor and were assured by him of all reasonable assistance on feasible projects.
The assignment appealed to me. I am a retired person with a back-pxound of experiences whioh enable me to help with this work. Also, being retired, I have some free time to devote to this useful uurpose. In addition, I have lived in this community for more than X3X thirteen years and own a home here.
