WAVELAND — While other cities along the Gulf Coast are getting ready for changes when new mayors and council members take office in July, Waveland city officials proceed quietly with "business as usual.”
Waveland, incorporated lnlti88 under a special charter, Is one of only a few Mississippi cities that has never changed its form of government. City elections« ■; will not be held here until 1986, and there is no indication that voters are clamoring
for a change in city officials.
In Waveland, "business as usual" Is accompanied by extreme longevity in office.
John Longo Jr. Is completing his fourth term as mayor, and his nearly 18 years In that post were preceded by three terms as an alderman. Longo’s predecessor, Garfield J. Ladner, was * mayor for 32 years.	f-	■
Experience on the board of aldermen totals about 32 years. Ward 4 Aldertnan ^ Herman Yarborough, who also serves as 0 mayor pro tem and, in accordance with

the city's charter, as city superintendent, , is serving his fourth term on the board. Barbara Rappold of Ward 1 and Louis Smolensky of Ward 3 are serving their second terms.
