As the little community of Bay St. Louis grew, tragedy struck and engulfed not only the town but the nation as well, tearing our country asunder and plunging it into Civil War. We see a contingent of Hancock County boys preparing to leave for war. A flag is presented to the departing troops by the ladies of the town as a symbol of their faith and trust.

EPISODE El CUT—THE COMING OF THE IRON HORSE
What an era the middle of the Nineteenth Century proved to be. Haircuts and shaves were twenty-five cents and dressed pork was seven cents a pound. However, die coming of the railroad was doubtless the most important single event in the history of the County. Its construction was an engineering epic, and transportation accomplishment of national significance. There was festive air, and all the folks were in their best attire for the big event. It was indeed a gala holiday.
