1941-42 Gulf Coast Champs
The first Bay High Basketball High School team to win the overall Gulf Coast Championship was coached by Clay Boyd. After capturing the “A” Class title, the team was pitted against the six best teams on the Coast in an “A and B” playoff. The team boasted a win-loss record of 25-6 for the season. Among team members from left are, Jack Garriga and “Pat” Murphy, forwards; Leo Seal Jr., center; Milton “Bud” Phillips and Lando Goldman (aka Rev. Lane Adams), guards. Bay High defeated the following teams twice that season: Gulfport, Biloxi, Pascagoula, Long Beach, Dedeaux and Orange Grove. Single victories included Picayune, Poplarville, McNeill, Industrial, St. Stanislaus, Sellers, Kiln, Lyman, Woolmarket, St. Martin, Gulf Coast Military Academy , Behrman, (New Orleans) and Slidell.
