What does one do when eye sight fails? When
hearing dims? When vision dims and blurs with
glaucoma and cataracts?
"There is a season for that, too", smiled
Mrs. Cowand who added: "Although I have lost completely
the sight in one eye, an operation last year left
me with enough sight in the other to distinguish
objects. Although I can no longer appreciate the
colors of the flowers I still love their fragrance.
From memory I can crochet and my daughter, Helene,
helps me with the yarn colors".
Mrs. Cowand, according to the Reverend Charles
Johnson, rector of the Christ Episcopal Church,
communicant
is the oldest	in	his	Parish.
Earlier this month she made and contributed a beautiful crochet Afghan to be sold at the church bazaar, and it brought eighty dollars!
The attractive white brick home on Highland Drive where Mrs. Cowand now lives with her daughter, Mrs.

For a time a home on Julia Street (named for Julia Cowand) was home to Mrs. Cowand and it was conveniently near the Cowand private cemetery located on Leopold. Hurricane Camille destroyed much of the Julia Street property and now the Cowand tract which ran all the way from the Beach Front to the Jourdan River lias been divided up with a part of it being developed by the famed Pete Fountain. A son, Malcolm Cowand, still lives on some of the Julia Street property.XKXXSCXa daughter, Ruby Cowand makes her home in Gulfport. A son, Jesse Cowand IV and grandson Jesse V live in Norfolk, Virginia, and sons _________________________________live in Houston.
