A concrete slab foundation for an expansion to the church's fellowship hall and additional classrooms had been poured just two days before Camille hit. For many months afterward, it was uncertain as to whether or not the new building would ever be finished. However, work was resumed about six months later. The Building Committee was composed of Dr. Walter Russo, Chairman;
Max Dossett, Treasurer; Camille Schaefer, John Middleton, and Edward Thomson. Kenneth Teague was the architect. Memorial gifts had been made to the Building Fund for the late S. K. Kepner, Robert Teague, Oliver Ware, 0. Duke, and Chris Reab, who were also honored at the dedication service. Dedication of the new annex was held on Sunday, June 7, 1970, at the eleven o'clock service.
June 13 - 16, 1970 - About forty young people from the Elfinwild United ?resbyterian Church of Glenshaw, PA, visited the church to help with the labor of repairing damaged homes and property of members of the congregation hard-hit by Hurricane Camille. They lived sort of "camp-style" in the educational building and spent their days working. They led the worship service the day after they arrived. The group had raised the funds for their trip through various projects in their home town.
In October of 1970, Mrs. Lynn Chunn received permission from the Session to begin a kindergarten at the church. She was later assisted by Mrs. Dickerson and the school served a real need in the community at that time.
In 1971 Mr. and Mrs. Orrin Pilkey joined the church and General and Mrs. Howard Haines transferred from Columbus, Ohio. In June of this year,
Borman Renshaw died and on August 1, 1971, Mrs. Bessie Mounger died.
The congregation was greatly saddened by these losses.
