The manse property which the church had bought on Highland Avenue was thereafter sold to the Schaefers, so that they could rebuild on higher, safer ground.
The church was also leaning toward such ground. It would seek to heal its wounds and those of its congregation, to become a church of reconciliation, not confrontation. It might not always succeed, but it would almost always be trying henceforth....
