at the First Baptist Church in the evening with the combined choirs of the various churches providing the music.
The First Presbyterian Church choir had grown as church membership had grown. There were 84 church members at the beginning of 1963. Church historian Mrs. A. E. Voight reported "The church was most fortunate to have Mrs. Ingrid Ling, a new member of the church, take over the duties of organist and choir director during Mrs. Teague's illness. Mrs. Ling plays the organ beautifully and has a very lovely singing voice."
A very successful first Vacation Bible School was held during the summer of 1963 with Mrs. Erick Muehl serving as Superintendent. Teachers were Sally Scharf, Mrs. Kenneth Teague, Mrs. G. H. Canaga, Kathleen Schaefer and Refreshment Chairman was Mrs. Edward Thomson.
Mrs. Evelyn Jacob joined in 1964 and was" 'soon helping daughter: Kathy in VBS. Hurricane Betsy struck the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the early morning of September 9, 1965, damaging many homes, including that of Max and Faye Dossett, members since 1962. The church set up an emergency fund to help any member in need.
On December 26, Rev. Lindsey announced to the congregation that he intended to retire on December 31, but would stay on until a new minister could be found. Rev. Malcom A. Bonner was called on November 6, 1966 and was to serve as pastor until September 15, 1967.
On June 10, 1968, Rev. Dwyn Mounger was called to serve as pastor, beginning a long and devoted association with this church. He was installad on August 8 and his wife, Mrs. Bessie Ingram Mounger, and their son Malcom Christian transferred their membership from Jackson. A Welcome Tea was held immediately following the service at the Renshaw home, 620 Highland Drive, given by the Women of the Church. The Moungers quickly made the Manse their home and often opened it to members of the congregation.
