daily findings to the New Orleans weather bureau. Since her death it has been owned by Peter Lutken, chairman of the Lamar Life Insurance Company of Jackson. On the doorway of this now empty home with its hand hewn timbers and eight inch boards there still hangs a little box that reads “Please Leave Note” as though this architectural old timer was expecting callers, little realizing its next visitors will be demolition teams to erase its existence from the Log of Logtown.
Destined to disappear, besides these and other old homesteads and the last reminders of the long Logtown reign of the H. Weston Lumber Company, are
many homes not yet covered with the patina of history, thirteen churches in the area, the Masonic Hall and the Logtown Consolidated School whose 200 pupils will be absorbed by other communities perhaps in other states.
If you still wish to visit the tiny town of Logtown, so rich in lumber lore, do it now before it becomes an abruptly ended chapter in the history of Mississippi. ★
