At the Anril 18U6, election of first officers for Gainesville, held on that Saturday, the following were elected:
"Gainesville, judging by the erect ion of new buildings — increase of Dopulation -- is the most thriving village in East Mississippi. The immigration to Hancock County the p'jst two years has been very great."
