It was the 282nd day of the last year of the 19th century. A group of 19 investors opened the front doors of a rented building in Bay St. Louis on October 9,1899. Thus was born Hancock Bank. With $10,000 in capital and $8,277.41 in investments, the bank was the first in Hancock County.
The bank's first branch was opened in 1902 in Pass Christian, and it established itself farther west in Gulfport in 1932. In the decades between its founding and its 99th birthday this year, Hancock Bank has prospered and has helped the Gulf Coast do the same. Through depression, war. boom, and panic, Hancock Bank has provided a solid foundation for families and businesses to build on.
Today, the tiny bank born out of necessity has grown to be a leader in commerce and investment.
On the brink of a new century, the bank has more than $2 billion in deposits, more than $2.5 billion in assets, and more than 100 locations across South Mississippi and South Louisiana.
While the Gulf Coast continues to prosper, Hancock Bank recognizes its responsibility as a business leader to help the area's future shine as brightly as its history. Our legacy demands it. Our customers deserve it.
We accept this responsibility and thank you for the opportunity to help you make the Gulf Coast a home for us all.
