In the centre of Hancock County, Miss., there is an immense, almost impenetrable swamp, called the "Devil's Swamp," which is described as a tangled maze of cypress, vines, creeping parasites, mud, bog, water, abounding in alligators, moccasin and cotton mouth snakes, scorpions, mosquitoes, bear, deer, etc.
This wild wilderness is said never to have been explored beyond its outskirts.
