The largest industry in Hancock County for the past several years has been the MTF (testing site for rockets used in the Ap-polo space program). A major cut-back in the program has brought forth replacement by a number of agencies of the government in environmental control and a smaller rocket testing program. It is expected that employment will climb again in the next several years.
The Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission has developed an airport with adjourning industrial space, and is presently developing a harbor site with barge facilities connecting directly with the Intercoastal Canal system.
Retail business is extensive in Bay St. Louis, marketplace for the area.
