Series 681: Archives Nationales Series C13 on Microfilm. 1970.
French Provincial Archives (RG 24).
A collection of microfilm of the Archives des Colonies series of documents (Series Cl3A, B, and C) as well as several items from the Archives de la Marine series from various French Archives (Paris, Toulon, Brest), produced by the Library of Congress and the Louisiana Colonial Records Project in 1970. These records are microfilm copies of the original French documents (correspondence, journals, military reports), dated 1673-1819, sent home to the Ministry in France from the French colonists in Louisiana. These records offer an exhaustive account of the lives and affairs of the colonists, relating in detail such matters as:
1)	food supplies/scarcity, agriculture, and crops for export (tobacco, indigo, sugar cane)
2)	severe and bitter weather and the related difficulties of survival
3)	the building of homes, forts, and hospitals (and the need for and use of Negro slaves and Indians for manpower)
4)	religious practices and struggling missionary efforts
5)	land, river, and bayou explorations
6)	military affairs - posts established, ammunition and artillery, Swiss reinforcements
7)	visits by slave and trade ships 7'^S)^otKer~European col6nists (particularly English and Spanish)
9)	visits, trade and wars with various Indian tribes
This microfilm is a much more complete collection of the French records in Paris than the transcripts made for the Mississippi Archives in 1906 (See Series 679).
Although these records are in French, an English summary of the contents of each reel has been added at the beginning of each reel. As the microfilm was examined and listed for this series description, the English summaries were informally compiled and can be found in Box 18233.
There is a very comprehensive index for the Cl 3A materials on the first reel of microfilm for the series (RG 24/MF 16). This index includes a descriptive calendar of documents in each volume, in groups of 20 volumes, followed by an alphabetical index to those 20 volumes. Dates shown for each reel are approximate - sometimes an item dated much earlier or later has been included on a reel. These dates are not shown below but are listed on the English summaries.
