Economic symposium is informed
Bank prexy sees ‘..no dar in Hancock County’s ’78

Seal, Jr., president, Hancock Bank, said Thursday, “...1978 showed no dark spots for Hancock County.” Seal was speaking before a capacity audience of business and civic leaders from Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River Counties at the 12th Annual Hancock Bank Annual Economic Symposium.
Entrance fees eyed as $ means at McLeod Park
The Hancock County Park Commission, managers of McCleod Park on Texas Flat Road, are considering the establishment of a sliding scale of fees for both entrance and activities at the park.
The commission met in informal session with representatives of the board of supervisors this week, to iron out the direction wished of them by the board, and the extent of their authority and autonomy.
Present from the commission were: A.C. Jones, chairman, Mary G. Callier, secretary-treasurer; Perry Gibson, Hildon Shaw, and Uless Bergeron, Jr.
Supervisors at the session included: Alton A. Kellar, president, Beat 2; Sam Perniciaro, Beat 4; James Travirca, (PARK FEES - Page 4;
Seal said this is the combined opinions of 40 or 50 people in the business world interviewed in the area during the past few weeks. They didn’t see anything disturbing, and everything is looking ‘on the up’ in Hancock. The other counties have a few dark spots, but the bright spots overshadow them, Seal said.
Also speaking at the symposium were: Richard A. Stuckey, assistant chief economist, DuPont Company; Jerry Hlass, manager, NASA - National Space Technology Laboratories, Hancock County; William H. Hager -man, vice-president, manufacturing, North America, Pay Line Group of International Harvester. The welcome address was given by Donald Sutter, chairman of the board, Hancock Bank.
Concerning industry in Hancock County, Seal said, “Last year was the greatest ever, with five new industries opening in the last eight months. There are now several real good prospects for small industries in Hancock.”

Space facility manager paints future bright
By ELLIS CUEVAS Jerrv Hlass, manager of NASA National Space Technology Laboratories in Hancock County, on Thursday amplified the economic stability and growth factors for Hancock County during the Hancock Bank’s 12th Annual Economic Symposium at the Broadwater Beach Hotel.
Hlass spoke on the new role of NSTL, its great diversity of colocators, the economic impact offered by NSTL and its effect on the growth of Hancock and its surrounds.
He said that at the start of 1978 the population of NSTL was 2800, a count that should size to approximately 3,300 by the end of the year.
