Hancock County toots own horn

WAVELAND — The words “Explore Hancock County,” V x *en in the Mardi Gras colors o. , urple, green and gold above the signature of the person for whom Hancock County was named, forms the new logo of the Hancock County Tourism Development Bureau.
I^ocal business leaders, public officials and tourism board members witnessed the unveiling of the logo at a special ceremony held Wednesday afternoon at the Holiday Inn in Waveland.
Following the two-hour reception, which featured special guest John Hancock himself (portrayed by president of the Uncock County Historical
Mety Charles Grey), guests were treated to hors d’ouvres and a specially designed 8-foot by 3-foot king cake replica of the famous signature John Hancock signed to the Declaration of Independence.
Grey, as Hancock, was on hand to sign autographs and pose for photographs with the guests. He said he was honored to be a part of the celebration.
Executive director Beth Car-riere said the decision to use purple, green and gold as the colors for the logo came naturally because the holiday is celebrated
Tourism board members celebrate new logo, county pride

Carriere reviewed the 1996-1997 fiscal year accomplishments and previewed what Hancock County citizcns can expect from the 1997-1998 program.
Carriere said the bureau has plans for more advertising, including heavy emphasis in Texas and Louisiana, two areas where many Hancock tourists reside.
