burglar proof safe in the heart of the business district. Bay St. Louis’ first motion picture house began entertaining audiences around 1909 (Scharff, 1999). The Hancock Bank exhibited its success in its new offices, the first two-story brick building in Bay St. Louis. Merchant’s Bank, incorporated in Bay St. Louis in 1903, also prospered.

A new Bay St. Louis city administration building was completed in 1906 and located on Second Street. The county jail was also reconstructed during that time. The Bay St. Louis Ice, Light and
-	Bottling Works owned the street lighting utility in the city and in 1912 was illuminating 120 streetlights in both the commercial and residential neighborhoods.
Between 1917 and 1924, a building was constructed on Railroad Avenue to the west of the Ice, Light and Bottling Works. This'two and a half story, rusticated concrete block structure,
-sreportedly built by Andreas Scafidi, housed a grocery store and other businesses on the ground floor. The Scafidi family resided on the second level. By 1930, the building was vacant and by 194$, it had been repurposed as a bottling factory (Welsh, J.R. 2010). The building has survived and currently functions as the Bay St. Louis Little Theater.
