The Department of Archives and History has begun a survey to determine the condition of the approximately 450 state historical markers found throughout Mississippi. Because of the interest your organization has always shown in the preservation of Mississippi's history and the historical marker program, we are confident in calling upon you to help us. •
Enclosed, you will find a list of the state historical markers located in your county of which we have a current record. We would appreciate your answering the following questions about these markers.
1.	Which markers are missing or are in such a condition to warrant replacement or repainting.
2.	Concerning those which are known to be missing, do you have knowledge of their whereabouts?
3.	Are there any state historical markers in your county which are not listed? Undoubtedly, these would be very old. If there are, please give
us their titles and locations.
4.	Do you believe that any of these markers could be moved to a better location? Please state your reasons.
We would like to have this information by the fifteenth of June so that we can begin, in July, a systematic
