Prosperity, depression
The church did not have a pastor for many years, but one of the assistant priests from Our Lady of the Gulf in Bay St Louis was given the responsibility for the area. The congregation increased, and in 1886 a larger church was built on nearly the same site as the pre-sent-day church.
In the next couple of years, the area grew rapidly, and many lumber mills were established in the county. The lumber industry became a major business that employed many people.
Tracks were put in to haul lumber, and the timber was , sawed and cured in the kiln.

The mill, which supplied the church with electrical power, was tom down, and poverty was commonplace.
