port has a big banner, “Kings’ Daughters Manor. ”
I am the president of the Ocean Springs Circle of Kings’ Daughters and Sons and past state president. The name of Kings’ Daughters, according to our international constitution, is not to be used by anyone other than us.
Several years back I tried to find the owners of that building to ask that the banner be removed. Does anyone in Gulfport have that information — or influence to have the tacky banner removed?
The Kings’ Daughters and Sons in the state of Mississippi have three hospitals with this name, four nursing homes and three homes for mental patients from Whitfield. The first circle in the state was in Yazoo City in 1888.
Our local circle has the Thrift Shop in Ocean Springs. From this group of volunteers and works we give high school students scholarships; help the needy with rent, medicine, utilities, food; support soccer teams, YMCA summer camp; and support the Mental Health Home in Natchez.
The Biloxi chapter of an earlier time paid for the property that the old Biloxi Library sits on. (See the plaque). The little house on the grounds of the Biloxi Library was the first public library in the state sponsored by the Kings’ Daughters.
