The U.S. Navy is the largest resident agency at the Center.The Commander, Naval Oceanography Command, administers a world-wide organization whose mission is to provide oceanographic, meteorological and mapping, charting and geodetic support services to fleet forces operating across the globe.
The Naval Oceanographic Office is the largest single component of the Naval Oceanography Command. Information collected by this office is published and distributed to the fleet and to civilian maritime interests.

The USGS facilities include an indoor hydraulic lab and a 30-acre outdoor flood plain simulator.
