In	letter to the	Editor of	the	F. 0.	Times "A Citizen" states:
. . Allow me to propose	for	Mayor	Colonel J. 0. Nixon,
■who by past experience as an Alderman, is not only perfectly au fait on municipal matters, but whose decision of character, quickness of perception, unquestionable probity and personal popularity with the masses, point him out as the man for the place. . ."
Others also supported him for the Convention of March 7, 1866.
An advertising "Card"	endorsing	him	with 68 names was run on
Sunday,	Marph *+, with	a response	by	Nixon	on March 5»
John T. Monroe was nominated by the National Democratic Party
with J. 0. Nixon as Alderman.

The public can learn in brief the whole of yesterday’s proceedings at the City Hall by the perusal of the following order:

It appearing that John T. Monroe and James 0. Nixon, who received
respectively, at the late municipal election, a majority of the votes
for" the offices of Mayor and Alderman, may come within the classes of
exceptions mentioned in the President's Proclamation of Amnesty,
neither having received a special pardon, they are suspended from the
exercise of any of the functions of those offices until their cases
can be investigated and the pleasure of the President made known;
but they will be allowed to take the oath of office, and the Mayor-
elect will be allowed to administer the usual oath to the persons elected.	v
