It may be that we should excise entirely the section on Jackson's march to New Orleans and the Tatum report, because it appears more and more clearly to me that no part of the march went throught Hancock County.
They crossed the Pearl at John Ford's. I have been willing to believe that the march left the 31sr parallel somewhere before the Pearl and travelled southwest, possibly into Hancock, until I discovered that Ford lived in Marion County, north of what is now Pearl River County, (see notes)
Possibly a way to include the coverage would be to take the approach that because so many (Thigpen, Sullivan, Gray) believe in the Hancock location, future researchers may be challenged to find the evidence which I cannot find.
