On the wall at the Murphy School just outside the office hangs this plaque. For ten years it has hung there with little or no attention. Only those people who ••ere closely connected to the construction of this building knew why it was designed as it was.
It is very interesting and unique in its own way. Of course the left side bears the names of the people who were on the board of directors at the time. But on the right side there is a very interesting design which bears definite meaning to this campus and area.
The designer of this plaque who lived in the north was not familiar with the local or terrain of the area where this school was being built. So he wrote to the contractor, a Mr. Lee from North Miss, to pick leaves from all the trees and bushes surrounding the school. This Mr. Lee did and the leaves were mailed.
Several months later the plaque arrived and there on the right half was the exact copy in bronze, all the leaves which had been gathered. If you stand and look at it you can pick out the pine needles, the youpon, the black oak and others.
