This is the sixth year that the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce has presented its Outstanding Citizen award. The award is presented to the person who has contributed a great deal of time to the betterment of the county as a whole.
Sometimes it is very hard to put into words the impressions of - -and feelings for - - someone. Such is the case with this year's Outstanding Citizen.
All the feelings are good - - all the impressions are beautiful. And this person's concern for others always overshadows any talk about herself.
A list of some of her endeavors reflects this concern. She began working in the Bay/Waveland Garden Club and served as its president. She also volunteered her time at the Veterans Hospital in Gulfport as a Red Cross Gray Lady.
This outstanding citizen helped to organize the United Way in our county, and worked as its director for 10 years or more. She is now executive secretary of that group.
Earlier she was chairman of the Heart Fund for Hancock County for 14 years, and provided transportation for many needy children, as well as assisting them in many other ways.
She was instrumental in getting the Senior Citizens program started here, as well as the RSVP program.
Through her efforts with the United Way, she became involved with other programs, such as founding the summer camp program for under-
