ONEZIPHORE and LUCIE BLANCHARD
INTRODUCTION
I do not remember our grandparents. We are fortunate to have beautiful oral histories from Marguerite and Martie.
See Gloria's statement under Corinne's section for additional grandparents commentary.
NAMES
Gloria and I always called our Blanchard grandparents Mere and Pa Pa. I assumed all of the grandchildren did the same. Marguerite and Martie refer to Grandma and Grandpa. By the time I realized this difference in title, I already had the picture page printed using the term "Mere". So, Mere = Grandma Blanchard
Our grandmother and her oldest daughter were both named Lucie. On one page of pictures appears a picture of two girls, Lucie and Edna, circa 1884, that is our Aunt Lucie. Next to that picture is a group with Lucie and Oneziphore, that is our grandmother. I'm sure all grandchildren know this, but it may be confusing to future generations.
I like the name Oneziphore. I like thfj sobriquet Zief.
I was surprised to discover our grandfather's first name was OLESIPHORE. How the name evolved into Oneziphore we can only speculate, probably phonetic distortion. It appears that our grandfather was confused considering the different versions used:
OLESIPHORE	Marriage Registration
Baptismal Certificate Death Notice
OLEZIPHORE	Article of Death
ONEZIPHORE	Marriage License
Tomb Inscription
ONESIPHORE	Death Certificate
Corinne's Birth Certificate
OLEZIPHOR	Teen's Baptismal Certificate
ONAZEFORE	Teen's Birth Certificate
OLAZEFORE	Achille's Birth Certificate
OLAZFARE	Bay	St. Louis Property Papers
Uncle Albert's Letter
ONESIFER	Zief's Birth Certificate
As far as I have been able to determine, no one at this time knows the origin of the name. I asked Alice if Zief had
