In the 1870 census of Beaumont, Texas, we found on page 45, a Philip Bordages, 30 years old, white, male, retail merchant, bom in France. His wife was Ellen, 22 years old, female, born in Texas, and three children all bom in Texas: Louis, age 6; Isador, male age 4; and Mary B., age 2. The 1880 census of Beaumont shows on page 11, a Philip Bordages, age 40, white male, bom in November, merchant by profession, he and his parents all bom in France. His wife Ellen, age 35, bom in December in Texas and their children as follows, all bom in Texas: Louis, age 18; Isadore (M) age 14; M. Belle, age 11; Nora, age 9; John A., age 4; and Joseph, age 1.
In April of 1974, we wrote to Father Martin Bordages in Beaumont, Texas to see if he was related to our Bordageses. He wrote back and said that he is the son of James
D.	Bordages, and grandson of Philip Bordages. He said that his grandfather came from Castillon, Haute-Garonne, France to Texas in the year 1858, at the age of 19. Based on this, Philip was bom in 1839. Father Bordages said he did not have any brothers or sisters, and he came by himself. Years later his grandfather went back to France and brought his (Philip's) mother to Beaumont to live with him. Philip's mother and some of Philip's children are buried in the Broussard Cemetery in Hamshire, Texas.
Father Bordages sent us a copy of a legal paper on file in Jefferson Co., Texas dated August 29, 1945. This paper appears to be some sort of an Estate settlement and lists many of the descendants of Philip Bordages. This document also lists who his children married and their children if needed. The paper states that Philip Bordages died on July 17, 1891, that he married Ellen Elliot on March 3, 1862, and that this was his first and only marriage. They had 10 children listed as follows:
1.	Louis Bordages - born March 1, 1863.
2.	I.R. Bordages - bom April 17, 1866 and died December 24, 1934.
3.	Mary Belle Bordages - bom September 11, 1868 and married J.E. Broussard.
4.	Clara Bordages - born January 27, 1871 and died November	24, 1878.
5.	Nora Bordages - born July 12, 1872.
6.	Asa C. Bordages - bom March 8, 1876 and died November 10, 1932. He married first to Betty Benton Wheeler and had two children by her, Asa C. Jr. and Wheeler. Asa C. Sr. divorced and remarried Sibyl Orr and had no children.
7.	Joe A. Bordages - bom August 11, 1878 and died November 21, 1944.
8.	Theresa Bordages- born January 15, 1881 and died February	5, 1881.
9.	Vital Leon Bordages - bom May 11, 1882 and died October	19, 1887.
10.	James Dennis Bordages - bom October 26, 1887.
Apparently there must be some connection between this Philip Bordages and the Bordages family of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. If we could find the names of the parents of Philip, we could determine how they are related to our Bordageses.
On February 1, 1976, we received a letter from Katherine (Mrs. P.G. Matthews) of Rt. 2, Box 238 G., Beaumont, TX. She is a first cousin to the above named priest, Father Bordages. She said much the same as Father Bordages, but she added that Philip's mother's name was Louise (maiden name unknown), bom in France in 1819, and died in Texas on September 4, 1889, according to her headstone. The headstone only says that she was the mother of Philip without giving her maiden name.
