Christian Letdener first appears of record on the vessel '?Marie" which arrived in New Orleans, La. in 1719L. He is listed as a tobacco smuggler sent to the colonies, instead of being jailed,by order of the Crown. He is shown as a citizen of Pitersene in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland. He next appears of record in 17 24 when he and his wife have their son baptised at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile, Alabama.(Bapt ismal Bk. 1 at page Jil). No one has ever been able, to date, to definitely identify the background of his wife, except for the fact that she was an European.
