Mrs. Williams when she was a child. Some of the slaves adopted the Doby name and can now be found in the Picayune, MS area. We will now discuss the ancestors of the wife of Jean B. D’auby and following this, we will go into his descendants.
Marie Jeanne Giraud (Girod, Girault, Girau, etc.) was baptized on June 30, 1772 in New Orleans, the daughter of Andre Louis Giraud and Jeanne Negrier (St. Louis Cathedral Baptism Book 7, p. 10). She appears in the 1820 Hancock County census as being born before 1775. She again appears in the 1830 census as born between 1770 and 1790. Thus, she was born between 1770 and 1775, according to these two census records. Because Catholic children are usually baptized as soon as possible after birth, we can safely assume that she was bom in the year 1772. Marie died on the Doby Place between the years 1843 and 1850. She paid taxes in the year 1843 (the records are missing through 1859), and she fails to appear in the 1850 Hancock County census. She does not pay taxes in 1859, indicating she was almost certainly dead by that year.
After she married Jean Baptiste D’auby in New Orleans, she lived the early part of her married life there then moved to Mississippi in 1809 with her husband. She is buried in the old Doby Cemetery without a headstone.
Andre Louis Giraud (Girod, Girard, Girault, Girau, etc.) was the son of Etienne Giraud and Catherine Hulnoy (Ulnoy, Hutcosi, etc.), bom in New Orleans, LA, and baptized on October 21, 1729 (St. Louis Cathedral Baptism Book 1729, p. 104b). We assume he was born prior to this date earlier in 1729. Andre married Jeanne Negrier on August 21, 1759 in New Orleans, (St. Louis Cathedral Marriage Book IV, p. 55, act 16). Andre and Jeanne Giraud started a large family in the New Orleans area and in later life moved to St. Bernard Parish where he appears in the 1770 Spanish census. This census is in a book by Albert Robichaux of New Orleans, LA. Andre was a shoemaker by profession as stated on his marriage record. He died somewhere in St. Bernard Parish after the birth of his youngest child, Alexis, born in 1786.
The following is a list of the children of Andre and Jeanne Giraud as researched and compiled by Mrs. Forsyth, the archivist at St. Louis Cathedral. Most of this information was taken from the Church records at St. Louis Cathedral.
1.	Jeanne Giraud - born June 23, 1760 (Baptism Book IV, p. 33). She married Simon Laurent on May 27, 1778.
2.	Antoine Giraud - baptized May 6, 1762.
3.	Marie Agnes Giraud - bom around 1763 and married Joseph Burat on May 7, 1791. She died on October 25, 1822. Burat was the son of Joseph Burat and Louise Millet.
4.	Marie Giraud - bom March 18, 1764. It is believed Marie married (first name unknown) Gaudin.
5.	Catherine Giraud (twin to Marie) - bom March 18, 1764. She married Joaquin J. Azcarraga on January 28, 1794. He was a native of Matricu, Guipuzcoa, Spain, son of Antonio Azcarraga and Ynes Subillaga. Catherine had at least one child called Agnes, bom on June 20, 1798 and baptized in 1800.
