BAY ST. LOUIS ? At 20, Jerry Fisher faced a choice about his future. Actually, it was not a very difficult decision for him.
After spending his younger years gathered around the old southern Oklahoma homestead playing music with his father and relatives, he tried out the sheet metal business. It didn?t last long.
?My boss said, ?You?re going to have to do sheet metal or music,?? Fisher said. ?I told him, ?Well, I got to sing tonight, so I?ll see you later.?
Fisher, affectionately known as ?Fish,? went on to become a member of the popular group Blood, Sweat and Tears, did solo work after that, and performed with other bands.
He opened Dock of the Bay, a restaurant and nightclub in Bay St. Louis, and now performs there and at other venues with his band, Jerry Fisher and the Music Company.
Fans of Blood, Sweat and Tears and lovers of music in general are still pleased with his decision.
?Sheet metal?? Fisher said, shaking his head. ?No way.?
