If it hadn?t been for Melva Lee?s seafood gumbo, the rock ?n roll elite might well have had another long-playing, long'Staying legendary superstar?but their gain would certainly have been the Bay St. Louis music community?s loss. As luck had it, however, in 1972, Jerry ?Fish? Fisher (then lead singer for the superstar rock group Blood Sweat and Tears) met Melva Luke, a Delta stewardess on holiday in-Europe.
In the spirit of Southern hospitality, she invited the young musician to sample some of her homemade seafood gumbo the next time he was in New Orleans. Melva must have looked like a woman who could really cook because Jerry recalls that he ?thought about that gumbo a lot.? Four months later, after a BS&T concert at the University of New Orleans Lakefront campus, he called Melva to place his order.
Today, Fish and Melva are the proprietors of Dock of the Bay, a restaurant and
