dress and the next time she'd give me a dime and I never did see any of those things. So now the reason I'm telling this story is to caution you mothers to never promise a child you're going to do something unless you mean it, because a child never forgets it. But now since I'm older, I have forgave her but still every now and then it comes to my mind. I can still see that little tall slender woman come to her front porch calling me and I'd say Emma, I'm going to pretend I don't hear her but Emma would always say go ahead and if you never get a penny the Lord will reward you. So I'm still waiting for that reward. I can remember the church in Westonia, it sat just a little ways from where we lived and I'd get dressed and Emma would curl my hair all around me head and people would say oh; if I had hair like that I'd think I was rich. I'd sit then and wait till that enormous bell would alarm the whole town and I go sit right up on the front seat as if I were a queen. But I've learned since that, that I'm everything but a queen.
