said well you and Willie had better come on and I'll go with you to get them as it's time for the Courthouse to close, so then she turned to Emily Little who was also a friend of mine and told her to go two blocks from there and get the Baptist minister, so when we got back from getting the license the Minister was there and we had six to stand with us. So I guess that was enough witnesses to prove we were united in Holy Matrimony. Marie gave us her room that night and it was really nice what I saw of it because I was hurrying so to get my gown on and get in bed until I never did much looking. I turned the lamp down as low as I could and got in on the side next to the wall and got just as far on the edge as I dared too, so when he came in he blew the lamp out and got just as far on his side as he could get. Neither one of us spoke. I think I almost went to sleep by the time I hit the hay, as an old saying was. So the next morning early, he got up and dressed and came around on my side of the bed and sat down and he took his finger and tipped my gown a little and I caught my gown and said you've got your nerve to do that. He told me then he had to go down to the store on the corner to get some horse feed so while he was gone I hurried and got dressed so when he got back, Mrs. Carpenter and Marie had a wonderful breakfast, so we had to rush to catch the train going into New Orleans as we were going to Mardi gras. When we stepped up on the steps of the train the rice began to pepper us and then they all began to wave hand kerchiefs and say good by as if we were going to be gone for months. When we got into N. 0. to the depot brother Jerome his wife and Emile's sister met us and I hadn't seen Jerome for sometime and I started crying just as I did when he and Sarah Summers were married. They'd asked me if I was sick or what was wrong and I'd tell them no, nothing was wrong, so then I'd laugh and I guess they thought I was crazy. I didn't know myself what was the cause of me crying unless it was because I was so happy to see my brother as every one in the family was crazy about him.
Well, to go on with the honeymoon, we stayed all day on Canal Street watching the floats. The parade. When it was getting dark we all went to Jerome & Sadie's, had a good supper and when it was time to go to bed Jerome said Sis, I hate to tell you but I'm going to have to go to a real good friends of ours who has a boarding house and see if she can make room for you.
