The Year 1931
On a Sunday morning I was cooking breakfast and all of a sudden a harsh pain struck me in my back and lower part of my stomach, it was so severe it almost pulled me to the floor so I started in my room and had just gotten inside of the bedroom door when it seemed every thing in me fell out. I know there must have been a gallon of blood. I was 3 1/2 months. Never knew any thing until the next morning when I woke up sister Emma was sitting by my bed and I said Emma! What are you doing here so early? She said Dr. Fountain and I have been here all night, you've been unconscious a sick girl and he has just left. Then I remembered what had happened the morning before. I got up the next day and went to work as if nothing had have happened. Mrs. Hover (my mother-in-law) had gone to Gulfport to spend a week with her oldest son J.B. and his family and hadn't been there but a few days when she fell and broke her hip and wanted to come home so Willie went and got her and they told her they could do for her as well as I could but she told them no; I was used to doing for her and I'd know what to do. Now this happened some time before I had the miscarriage so that was one reason I had to get up so I could tend to her as she wouldn't let any one else do the things I had to do for her. Willard was my baby then 3 years old and I think that's one reason she wanted to come home as she petted him to death. She loved and was good to all of the children. She passed away soon after that. In 1931 then Ruby Pearl was born, March 20th, 1932.
I had another miscarriage when Della was about a year and a half old and later I had another, but can't remember just when it was. I think some times, I must have been made of cast iron. I was always as strong as a mule up until ruby was around two years old and that was caused from my teeth, but after I had all of my teeth pulled in two months time I had begun to gain weight and before Stephen was born in 1938 I weighed 191 lbs. Now in 1988 I weigh a little over 150. I can't lose for gaining. I could write many many more things that have happened in my married life but I'm tired, so think this is it.
